Starting A New Therapeutic Recreation Program

*This course has been pre-approved by NCTRC for 5 clock hours.

Starting a new TR program from the ground up is very exciting but not without challenges to consider. This course will identify requirements needed as well as helpful strategies to build a strong, successful TR program .This course will walk you through two scenarios in building a new TR program: 1) Within a brand-new facility. 2) Within an existing program that has made the decision to add TR services. Learners must pass a quiz with at least a 70% in order to be awarded the CE completion certificate within 365 days of starting the course.

Course Objectives

  • Participants will learn strategies on how to start a TR program from the ground up.

  • Participants will be able to identify key components of providing quality TR services.

  • Participants will learn the five domains of TR and specific activities within each that can be incorporated into new TR programs.

  • Participants will discover the flow of the APIE process and how to implement it into the creation of a new TR program.

Hi! My name is Tracie Schendel and I have been a CTRS since 2010. Most of my experience has been in mental health in both inpatient and community based settings. I currently work at a Crisis Residence in which we stabilize adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses in a residential setting.
