Social Media & Advocacy in Therapeutic Recreation

*This course has been pre-approved by NCTRC for 5 clock hours.

This course will explore several different social medias that are used by CTRS’s and tips on how to use them effectively. The role that social media plays in Therapeutic Recreation and how to use it to advocate for yourself and for the profession is also covered. At the end of this course the learner must pass a quiz with at least a 70% in order to be awarded the completion certificate within 365 days of starting the course. 

Course Objectives

  • Be able to navigate each social media platform effectively

  • Know the role that social media plays in Therapeutic Recreation.

  • Learn the different ways to bring awareness to Therapeutic Recreation through the use of social media.

  • Be able to determine the best way to network using social media.

  • Explore additional ways to advocate for Therapeutic Recreation.

Emily Gaulke, CTRS

Emily Gaulke received her bachelor’s in Therapeutic Recreation at the University of Iowa. She then passed her NCTRC Exam to become a CTRS. Currently, she works at a retirement community in Iowa. She loves working with seniors. Emily has taught a couple classes at the Iowa Inclusive Therapeutic Recreation Association’s Annual Conference and is currently on the IITRA board as the Media Representative.
