Professionalism in TR

*This course has been pre-approved by NCTRC for 5 clock hours.

This course provides an overview of responsibilities and strategies for maintaining professionalism in Therapeutic Recreation (TR). The importance of credentials, licensure and professional standards of practice and the code of ethics is discussed. The course also includes ways to pursue and maintain professional development within the field and ways to practice professionalism in work environments. At the completion of this course, participants will need to pass an exam with a minimum score of 70%. Participants must complete the course within 365 days of starting the course to receive a completion certificate.

Course Objectives

  • Students will identify at least three professional Standards of Practice.

  • Students will identify at least three ways to enhance professional competence.

  • Students will identify at least three ways to maintain a safe & therapeutic working environment.

Instructor Bio:

My name is Beth Petzold, CTRS and I have been practicing TR for over 8 years. I have had the pleasure of working with diverse populations of individuals, including those with Intellectual Disabilities, Autism, Stroke, Dementia, Mental Illness, and physical impairments. Settings have included outdoor and adaptive sports and Adult Day Care. I love assisting people towards appreciating strengths, discovering passions and increasing self-efficacy and confidence.
