Understanding Multiple Sclerosis

*This course has been pre-approved by NCTRC for 5 clock hours.

This course will teach individuals about multiple sclerosis and its effects on the human nervous system. Individuals will better understand the types of multiple sclerosis, accompanying symptoms, how to better understand how this disease affects the lives of those living with it, and Recreational Therapists’ role in the treatment process. At the completion of this course, participants will need to pass an exam with a minimum score of 70%. Participants must complete the course within 365 days of starting the course to receive a completion certificate.

Objectives

  • Participants will be able to explain the key factors of the human nervous system.

  • Participants will be able to define multiple sclerosis, the different types of MS, treatments and how those living with it are affected.

  • Participants will be able to describe the role of Recreational Therapists in treating individuals with MS.

Morgan Brown, MS, CTRS

Instructor Bio:

Morgan Brown completed her undergraduate career at Towson University where she obtained her BS in Gerontology in 2019. She then went on to graduate with her master’s degree in Recreational Therapy from Temple University in 2021 and became a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in 2022. She has a wide range of experience working with adults and older adults who are living with acquired disabilities in inpatient and community settings. Working in a variety of setting has exposed her to a diverse group of diagnoses and interventions. She is driven and passionate to educate others on the unique and plentiful treatment benefits that Recreational Therapists can provide for individuals with different diagnoses.
