Reignite The Passion Within: Helping Recreational Therapists break out of their comfort zone and tap into creativity

This course will teach skills to help reignite the passion within your RT practice. Topics will include getting out of your comfort zone, exploring new and creative interventions in behavioral health and practicing leadership skills to help maintain professional competence. This course will help you gain a better understanding of how to use Recreational Therapy to teach your clients ways to challenge their thought patterns and to think outside of the box. This will also help challenge your mind to think about how you can design new program services based on your clients' needs and interests and to start using your current resources in a variety of different ways to provide new RT interventions within your practice. At the completion of this course, participants will need to pass an exam with a minimum score of 70%. Participants must complete the course within 365 days of starting the course to receive a completion certificate.

Course Objectives

  • Individuals will identify 3 different leadership skills that can be a helpful resource in treatment groups.

  • Individuals will identify 3 ways they can implement changes into their current RT practice to help reignite the passion within themselves.

  • Individuals will be able to identify 3 ways to challenge patients to use flexible thinking through the adaptation of conventional games.

  • Individuals will identify 2 ways to incorporate small wins with their patients through unconventional interventions.

Krystal Muehl MA, CTRS

Instructor Bio:

Krystal has a bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation and has been a Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist (CTRS) since 2010 along with obtaining a master’s degree in Educational Psychology in 2014. She graduated with each of her degrees from Eastern Michigan University. She has experience working with children and adults (women and men) in inpatient psych and the prison system while living in Michigan. Currently she is working in a forensic mental health Hospital for the State of California as a Supervising Recreational Therapist. Krystal has a strong passion for advocating and helping to educate others on how wonderful it is to be a Recreational Therapist.
