Nature-Based Recreation Therapy Programs for Women Veterans

*This course has been pre-approved by NCTRC for 5 clock hours.

The Nature-Based Recreation Therapy Programs For Women Veterans course harnesses the healing power of nature to provide therapeutic recreation experiences that promote mental, emotional, and physical well-being for women veterans. The course will also address the unique challenges faced by female veterans, including PTSD, military sexual trauma (MST), depression, anxiety, and difficulties transitioning to civilian life. At the completion of this course, participants will need to pass an exam with a minimum score of 70%. Participants must complete the course within 365 days of starting the course to receive a completion certificate.

Course Objectives

  • Participants will understand at least three mental health benefits of nature-based therapy for female veterans.

  • Participants will be be able to identify at least three effective recreational therapy (RT) interventions tailored for female veterans.

  • Participants will be able to implement three outdoor activities to enhance coping skills, resilience, and social connection.

  • Participants will be able to understand and name three key barriers to accessing veteran services for women and healthcare.

Instructor Bio:

Diana is the owner & Founder of Your Adventure Rx offering outdoor therapeutic recreation based in Bozeman, Montana. She has planned and led outdoor programs for many national adaptive sports organizations such as Eagle Mount, Disable Sports Eastern Sierra and Telluride Adaptive programs and planned multi-day adventure program for large corporations including Altria. For 15 years she’s been practicing recreation therapy and lives, works and plays in the outdoors. Her other certifications include: Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) in alpine and adaptive ski teaching and in Wilderness First Aid (WFA) through the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).
